Mission Capital's Open House

On January 30, Mission Capital welcomed community members to meet our new CEO, Madge Vásquez, learn more about membership benefits and connect with other leaders in the nonprofit community. Our staff was excited to demonstrate how we support the nonprofit community through our various offerings, and reaffirmed our commitment to strengthening Central Texas’ nonprofit ecosystem. Representatives from current member organizations, E3 Alliance and Central Texas Library System, shared how Mission Capital has helped support their missions over the years.

“As I wrap up my first month at Mission Capital, it’s important to me, and to us as staff, to emphasize that we are here for you – the nonprofit sector.”– Madge Vásquez, Mission Capital CEO

Guests visited with Mission Capital teams to receive raffle tickets in exchange for asking and identifying our areas of expertise. Guests were also encouraged to ask Madge a question via our “Ask Madge” question box. We’ve shared a few highlights below!

Q & A with Madge

What drew you to Mission Capital?

The reason I chose to join the Mission Capital team, is because of its unique value proposition in the community – to blend capacity building, leadership and learning with social innovation and business rigor. The reality is complex community problems cannot be solved by a single organization, donor or individual. It really does take an authentic collaboration and ecosystem approach between nonprofit organizations, community leaders and entrepreneurs to solve these problems together. Many of you are already doing collaborative work within your own sectors, and we’d love to know how we can help.

What do you want our nonprofit community to know?

As nonprofits, you‘re an important community asset. I look forward to getting to know each of you. I want to hear your insights on how we can ensure Mission Capital engages you, your organizations, staff and board volunteers in a meaningful way that helps you multiply your community impact.

What are you most excited about for this year at Mission Capital?

A few specific opportunities I’m excited about are:

  • Continuing Mission Capital’s role as a hub and convener on pressing issues facing our community, and the opportunity for collective impact solutions to solve those problems.

  • Harnessing the best of all sectors – nonprofits, for-profits, philanthropy and government to access the untapped potential for collaboration.

  • Leveraging our Social Venture Partner network, an innovation in its own right, and combining capacity building with social entrepreneurship talent.
