And we believe it will take a new form of capital, mission capital, to solve those problems.Greenlights has been the go-to resource for all things nonprofit: advisory and consulting services, training and education, membership and convening, research and resources, and more. We are proud to have helped (and will continue to help) strengthen and serve literally thousands of nonprofit organizations, and now we also want to see big problems in our community get solved – by high-performing nonprofits and their partners. So what is Mission Capital?1) Mission Capital is a new identity for Greenlights. While we are in many ways the same Greenlights you have known for years, we are evolving to better serve this community. A bold new name symbolizes and empowers this new path.
- We have changed our ultimate aim and strategic focus:
- Not only nonprofit strengthening, but community problem-solving
- We have expanded our team with new talent:
- 50% increase in our staff, who have backgrounds in venture philanthropy, leadership and learning, and strategic consulting
- We have added new services and programs:
- Our Mission Accelerator, Mission Driven conference, alternative financing, new research, and more on the way
- We have engaged and are deploying a new set of high-impact stakeholders:
- 100+ Social Venture Partners who commit their time, expertise, relationships to community problem-solving
- And we are engaging in and leading exciting new partnerships and initiatives:
- Pay for Success projects, the Travis County Collaborative for Children, and others
2) Mission Capital is also a new form of capital. You are familiar with the value that financial capital, human capital, political capital, social capital, and intellectual capital can deliver. But none of these forms of capital is independently able to solve most of our community problems. Just simply putting more money, volunteers, politicians, or ideas at our problems will likely not fix them. So we are introducing a new form of capital, Mission Capital, the kind of capital we believe is required in our new “solution economy” to actually solve our community’s problems.Mission Capital represents…
- The convergence of many forms of capital, where they come together with a laser focus on empowering people and organizations to change peoples’ lives
- The kind of capital that fuels mission-driven organizations and people
- The capital required to change the world
3) Mission Capital changes the conversation. Mission Capital also represents a critical change in the conversation in our sector, from one focused largely on nonprofit sustainability, to one focused on community problem-solving.We are witnessing a fundamental transformation in our sector, with the emergence of more for-profit social ventures and other nonprofit-like hybrid organizations, the introduction of new forms of intensive collective action and impact efforts, and the influx of new forms of financial capital (other than pure philanthropy). What all of the people and organizations working in this space have in common is that they are mission-driven, motivated by a higher purpose, a selfless aim. Mission Capital represents a change in how we talk about the nature of our work, those who are engaged in that work, and what will truly be required for all of us to be successful.I’m excited for this new era, for this new Greenlights. We believe community problems can actually be solved. It won’t be easy, but where other see insurmountable challenges, we see opportunity. We believe nonprofits and those who support them are at the heart that work. If you are a nonprofit or funder who has enjoyed a fruitful relationship with Greenlights, please know that those relationships will continue. But if you are newer to this movement, or if you have not engaged with Greenlights much in the past, we invite you to explore all that Mission Capital has to offer and join us in making this community stronger, healthier, and more prosperous for all who call it home![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
