The What, Who and Why of Membership Events




Austin is a great city to meet and connect with other people – there’s always a free breakfast taco somewhere! – but your time is limited and precious, so any event we host is designed with your nonprofit needs in mind. Mission Capital Membership currently includes access to three types of educational and networking opportunities, exclusively available to our members. Read on to learn what, who, and why to attend! 

Member Meet-ups  

What? 2-hour long educational meet-ups on topics chosen based on needs shared by members. Mission Capital consultants, directors, and Leadership and Learning team, as well as external partners, all come in to help teach content. This is an opportunity to learn with your peers, connect with others experiencing similar challenges, share your experiences, and ask questions! This year you’ll see a few themes: 

Who? No level of experience is required to attend – a passion or interest for the topic is encouraged. We will specify on each event if a specific audience benefits (ex: “Executive Directors” or “the Development team”) but all are welcome. We do ask that you limit to 2 attendees per organization because of space availability but please inquire if you want to bring more people!  

Why? We live in an ever-changing environment where relationships with others are often our only constant. These events are designed to equip you with timely information and connect you with others who can support the work you’re doing. And, we make sure we don’t take up the full day, helping you balance your own personal development with your work.

Office Hours 

What? 1-hour sessions with an individual adviser. These are 1:1 opportunities to go in depth with a Mission Capital staff member or Social Venture Partner (SVP). You bring the topic or challenge to discuss and they brainstorm with you for a single, uninterrupted hour. During registration you’ll be required to specify the details of your issue so that we can source a coach for you who can help fit your needs! 

Who? This is great for any level of team member who wants advice or support. Experience or seniority are not required to attend. Depth of questions and interest in connecting with SVPs and Mission Capital staff are what we’re looking for in matching.  

Why? Sometimes we have an issue that we just need to talk out with someone who knows what we’re talking about. Sometimes we need to know we’re not alone. And sometimes we can’t see where to go next, even when we’ve been building the path all along! Office Hours pairs you with an expert that will support you emotionally and logistically with finding your next step.

CEO Coaching Circles 

What? Our CEO Coaching Circles are six sessions that take place over a 6-month period where a cohort of CEOs and Executive Directors meet to participate in an Action Learning session together. Action Learning is process that involves a small group working on real problems, taking action, and learning as individuals and as a team. Central to this approach is the consideration of a real-world “problem” at each meeting. We will ask that each of you provide a work challenge or issue you’d like to address during our meetings, and a coach will facilitate a discussion of a selected issue every meeting.  

Who? At this time our circles are limited to CEO’s or ED’s only. If you have a different title but function as the ED/CEO of your organization reach out and let’s talk.   

Why? This is a protected space to be candid, share fears, get advice from your peers and develop yourself as a leader. The cohort format helps you build strong relationships with new partners.
