Job Purpose

Mission Capital is focused on equipping and connecting mission-driven leaders, organizations and networks working to advance equity and opportunity in Central Texas. To support the launch of a new mission and strategic plan, Mission Capital has been conducting data and insights gathering work to gain a deeper understanding of the broader needs of social sector actors in our community. This work is often called our “data ecosystem” services and involves a variety of project types, including needs assessments and surveys, often completed as part of larger collaborations. Mission Capital is also exploring building quantitative and qualitative assessments to support organizations and leaders as they navigate building a stronger awareness of race equity in their work and building cultures of belonging. In addition, Mission Capital has recently launched a data and evaluation service line aimed at helping individuals, organizations and collaboratives access, use, and present data to enhance their program planning, service delivery and impact.

The Mission Capital Research & Evaluation Fellow will provide direct support to each of these three initiatives and work areas, with priority given to the data ecosystem and assessments work threads. As opportunities arise, the fellow may have the opportunity to support external projects associated with the new Research and Evaluation consulting services.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The Research & Evaluation Fellow will support project coordination, data collection, data analysis, and insights synthesis for a variety of projects through the following activities:

• Design data collection processes, tools, and protocols
• Collect and analyze data, and synthesize insights
• Complete secondary research activities
• Coordinate both internal and external research activities
• Collaborate and communicate with project leads to ensure successful project management
• Race, Equity and Belonging
o In alignment with our strategic plan, participate in the building of a ”race, equity & belonging (REB)” culture across all MC departments and teams.
o Work with the Inclusion Council and participate in internal race, equity and belonging activities such as collective equity work sessions and affinity groups to embed and center race equity in both internal and external programming.
o Apply a race equity lens and embed equity in all essential job duties and responsibilities.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

• Demonstrated experience in research methodology and research design with specific knowledge in:
o advanced knowledge and experience using quantitative strategies and methodologies (e.g. regression analysis, multivariate analyses)
o basic to advanced knowledge in mixed methods approaches
o experience with survey and assessment design
o experienced use of advanced statistical analysis tools, preferably with opensource tools (e.g. R)
• Ability to seek out and synthesize data and secondary resources to support research goals
• Demonstrated knowledge of community or participatory based approaches to research or evaluation
• Email responsiveness, coordination experience, attention to detail and ability to coordinate and direct project team members
• Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Excel
• Comfortable with adjusting priorities and project management timelines as organizational priorities shift
• Experience in business strategy
• Experience in user and customer centered approaches, such as human centered design, design thinking, service design, or user experience research
• Understands and values equity as an organizational operating principle and is committed to continued learning on issues related to diversity, equity, and inclusion

Minimum Qualifications:

• Advanced knowledge of research planning and design, and demonstrated experience with advanced quantitative data collection and analysis techniques and tools
• Basic knowledge of mixed methods approaches
• Experience in survey design or assessment design and evaluation
• Project management skills and ability to effectively collaborate in a multidisciplinary environment
• Experience completing literature reviews

Desired Skills

• Advanced knowledge in qualitative approaches to research (e.g. focus groups, in-depth interviews, case studies, ethnography)

Additional Information

Reports To: This position reports to the Senior Consultant for Data and Evaluation
Position Status: Part-time, 15 hours per week (flexible schedule), expected to continue for the duration of the projects (estimated 5 months), and not to exceed September 30, 2021.
Salary: $20.00/hour
Virtual Office: Mission Capital staff are currently working remotely until at least April 5, 2021. This position will also work remotely until we are able to safely return to the Mission Capital Office.
