Board Essentials August 2017

This workshop provides the fundamental principles and best practices that every nonprofit board member…and the staff who work with them…should know.

Join us to learn the top 10 roles and responsibilities of board members, with special emphasis on the board’s role in financial oversight, fundraising, planning, and partnering with the organization’s chief executive.  You’ll come away with a clear understanding of the many facets of board service, along with tools you can use to increase the effectiveness of your board.  

By the end of this workshop, you will be able to:

•    Define what sets the Central Texas nonprofit sector apart
•    Identify the top 10 roles and responsibilities of nonprofit boards
•    Differentiate between governance and management
•    List best practices for board recruitment, retention, and evaluation
•    Define common board leadership roles and committees

•    Explain how you can help your organization raise funds and awareness

Amber Fogarty, Director of Learning & Leadership

Amber Fogarty is proud to serve as Mission Capital's Director of Learning and Leadership. In this role, Amber is responsible for leading the evolution of Mission Capital’s learning and leadership development offerings by bringing together exceptional nonprofits and strong local leaders to solve big community problems. Amber is deeply passionate about empowering leaders to use their leadership for good, always advocating for John F. Kennedy’s assertion that “Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other.”

Prior to joining Mission Capital, Amber spent fourteen years as a leadership, communications, and development professional for both nonprofit and for-profit organizations. Amber has served as an Adjunct Faculty Member for the School of Management and Business and the New College Program at St. Edward’s University, as well as the College of Business at Concordia University Texas.

Amber received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Communication and an MBA with a specialization in Marketing from St. Edward’s University. She also earned a Master of Arts in Philanthropy and Development from St. Mary’s University of Minnesota.

Mission Capital’s Learning & Leadership Offerings Refund Policy
All cancellation and refund requests must be received IN WRITING at least 2 weeks in advance of the Learning & Leadership offering. Registrants may request a refund of fees paid, minus a $50 administrative fee, by emailing robinl@missioncapital.org. NO REFUNDS will be processed within two weeks of the event date. Rather than requesting a refund, you may transfer your registration to another staff member, board member, or volunteer by contacting robinl@missioncapital.org - all transfer requests must be received at least one week prior to the event date.
